Note to parents:  If you reach this page in error while attempting to register a Minor for a specific Program, you should contact the specific Program for help with registration.  Tub Sponsoring Offices and the Youth Protection Officer do not maintain information for Parents or Minors on registration with individual Programs.

Harvard TUB Sponsoring Offices

About the Tub Sponsoring Offices (TSOs)
Tub Sponsoring Office(s) are designated by each school or central unit with responsibility for:

  • Reviewing and approving Programs involving Minors, including Programs offered by non-Harvard organizations using Tub facilities;
  • Maintaining an inventory of approved Programs;
  • Collecting and maintaining Program registration information;
  • Administering and supporting institutional training;
  • Ensuring that all required screening has occurred, and that any person whose screening produces information that bears adversely upon his or her ability to provide for the safety and well-being of Minors is prohibited from having contact with Minors; and
  • Monitoring compliance with the Minors Policy at the Tub level.

About the Minors in Labs Policy Administrators

The Harvard Minors in Labs Policy is administered by Harvard Environmental Health & Safety and the Office of the Vice Provost for Research.  These offices handle questions about the Policy, approve Applications for Minors working in Harvard Laboratories, and can approve exceptions to the Policy in consultation with the Harvard Youth Protection Office (YPO) and Harvard Office of the General Counsel (OGC)

About the Youth Protection Officer (YPO)

The Youth Protection Officer is a central administrator in the Harvard Human Resources Office of Labor & Employee Relations, appointed by the Harvard Vice President for Human Resources, with responsibility for:

  • Maintaining the Minors Policy and bi-annually evaluating it for effectiveness;
  • Providing advice to the community on Policy requirements;
  • Developing and providing tools and online resources to assist Tubs in meeting Policy requirements (background screening, template documentation, training, abuse or neglect reporting, etc.); and
  • Annually, conducting a census of Programs, assessing Policy compliance and reporting results and any associated recommendations to the University Risk Management Council (URMC).
